The longest running show in sci-fi television history, Supernatural has been on the air for ten seasons and has been renewed for an eleventh, which will premiere on October 7, 2015. The tenth season is now available on Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital HD.
The tenth season picks up just after Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles) was transformed into a demon and cursed with the Mark of Cain. He’s spending his time partying with Crowley (Mark Sheppard). Meanwhile, Sam (Jared Padalecki) attempts to find his brother with help from Castiel (Misha Collins). Even after being returned to his human state, the Mark of Cain is still a problem for Dean and is continuous issue throughout the season.
The fifth episode of the season is the 200th of the series and amazingly, Supernatural shows no signs of slowing down. Though I haven’t watched every episode through the years, I’ve always been impressed with the series’ ability to ability to keep the storylines interesting while allowing the Winchester brothers to change and mature. With that said, there’s something familiar and relatable about the Winchester’s that has help the show endure for more than 200 episodes. Those behind Supernatural also deserve credit for being fearless; they continue to kill off beloved characters if it benefits the storyline, instead of worrying about fan reaction.
All 23 Season 10 episodes are on this DVD set and they look and sound as good as standard definition quality can offer. While extras are often of the throwaway variety, this set is packed with genuinely good stuff. There’s featurette on the filming of “Fan Fiction,” the series 200th episode that’s a must see. We also get a piece which involves fans talking about their love for Supernatural. There’s no denying their enthusiasm, but at over an hour, it felt a bit long to me.
As you might expect, we get a standard blooper reel which has some fun moments. he Supernatural panel from Comic-Con 2014, the “Very Supernatural Special” recapping the “road so far” and a featurette about the Mark of Cain story are also included. There are some deleted scenes and audio commentaries on several episodes. All in all, fans of Supernatural should be very pleased with this DVD release.
