Since its introduction in 1930, Looney Tunes has developed some of the most iconic animated characters of all time. Over the years, there have been numerous television series, feature films, and direct-to-video adventures featuring various characters. The new direct-to-video film Looney Tunes: Rabbits Run is a spin-off of The Looney Tunes Show, which ran from May 3, 2011 through August 31, 2014 on The Cartoon Network.
The film follows the beautiful, and clumsy Lola Bunny (voiced by Rachel Ramras), gets into the cab of Bugs Bunny (Jeff Bergman) after losing her job as a perfume salesgirl. In one of her attempts at perfume, Lola has unknowingly invented an invisibility spray, and now everyone is after her. Unfortunately for Bugs, he’s caught in the middle of the whole thing. Will Bugs help Lola foil the bad guys, or leave her high and dry?
It’s cool to see Lola take center stage, because most of the time Bugs or Daffy are in charge. Everyone else you’d expect from the Looney Tunes universe is here, but this is Lola’s show from start to finish. Rabbits Run offers up a decidedly simple story, but it’s fun, with some enjoyable action beats. The characters are allowed to go outside the box a bit, with a bunch of them showing up in different roles including Cecil the Turtle (Jim Rash), Yosemite Sam (Maurice LaMarche) and others, which puts an unexpected spin on the humor.
If you’re a big fan of Looney Tunes and its many incarnations over the years you will likely enjoy Rabbits Run. As a bonus, the DVD also includes five cartoons: “Best Friends,” “Fur of Flying,” “I Tawt I Tawt I Taw a Puddy Tat,” “Coyote Falls,” and “Rabid Rider.” Presented in widescreen with an English SDH 5.1 Dolby soundtrack, Looney Tunes: Rabbits Run will be available August 4th from Warner Brothers.
